Marius’s Story: Regaining Mobility Through the RELEVIUM Project

RELEVIUM delivers personalized supportive care—such as tailored physical exercise programs and symptom management, directly to patients' smartphones. Our mission is to alleviate the physical and emotional burden of cancer treatment, helping patients maintain their mobility, autonomy, and well-being from the comfort of their homes.

Hearing firsthand about the challenges and triumphs of those who use our solutions is what drives our research forward.

"My name is Marius, I am 59 years old, and I live with my family in a small rural town in Germany. My story began in 2024 when I suddenly started feeling extremely exhausted.

At first, I thought it was just stress from my demanding job. I tried to rest, exercised, and even took a long holiday, but the fatigue and a constant stomach pain only got worse. I rapidly lost 16 kilos. My GP repeatedly insisted my symptoms were just stress-related, and my initial blood tests and ultrasounds came back normal.

Fortunately, my family members—who are medical experts—pushed for further testing. Thanks to them, I privately managed to get a CT scan in September 2025. That was the day I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer."

My Treatment and the RELEVIUM Study

"I was admitted to the University Medical Center Mainz for treatment. The beginning was incredibly tough; I suffered a severe lung complication during a procedure at a local hospital and the initial chemotherapy sessions felt like hell.

However, things started to go much more smoothly when I was enrolled in the RELIVIUM study. As a lifelong sports enthusiast, I was glad this study existed. Through a series of tests, the team designed personalized daily exercise sessions tailored specifically to my condition, which I follow directly through an App on my mobile phone."

How I Live Today

"It is now January 2026, and my physical condition has improved significantly over the last two months. The daily exercises have helped me stay mobile, and I gradually feel fitter, more agile, and more stable—both physically and mentally. I am working from home, enjoying every moment with my supportive family, and looking forward to my daily workouts.

My biggest wish for the future is that my medical treatments allow me to have surgery soon, so I can enjoy a long, fulfilling life. As a cancer patient, I also want to advocate for increased training for GPs to recognize early symptoms of hard-to-diagnose cancers like pancreatic cancer. We need more prevention and screening in our medical systems."
